A wall plug should be specified as part of a fixing system: the wall, the plug, the screw and the item being attached. Getting those details right makes an enquiry easier to evaluate and a proposed product easier to verify.
For importers and private-label brands, a clear brief also makes quotations more meaningful. Two products can share a nominal size and still differ in geometry, material or the conditions under which they were evaluated.
Start with the wall, not just the plug diameter
Identify the actual base material. Concrete, solid masonry, perforated masonry and plasterboard raise different questions. For a board application, include its type and thickness, the number of layers and the available cavity depth. Describe the fixture and the direction of the expected load as well.
T.K. Excellent’s 2016–2017 development worksheets recorded substrate information alongside plug and screw dimensions. That is a useful starting point for a modern sourcing brief: every result should be connected to the configuration being evaluated.
Keep the plug and screw specification together
Define the plug diameter and length, the screw type and dimensions, and the fixture thickness. Add the drilling and installation requirements for the exact product under consideration. The drawing and sample reference should identify the combination being reviewed.
If the screw, material or plug geometry changes, record the revision and check whether existing evidence still covers it. Installation dimensions published for another product should not be copied across simply because the two fixings look similar.
Ask what a load figure actually represents
A measured test result, a characteristic resistance, a design value and a recommended load are not interchangeable. A useful report identifies the product and revision, test specimens, substrate, installation conditions, method, sample count and observed failure modes.

Those fields help organise development work, but the surrounding test conditions are essential before a result can support a purchasing or design decision. For projects requiring an assessed anchor system, request the documentation for the exact product and intended use. EOTA TR 064, for example, addresses a defined class of plastic anchor systems using product-specific European Technical Assessment information. A general technical reference is not a product approval.
